Stir over IIT in Andhra

The leaders of Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) have expressed resentment over the issue of shifting the location of the proposed IIT from Basara, Adilabad , district to Medak district in Andhra Pradesh.

The government, however, is said to be firm on its decision to set up an IIT in Medak district, considering that Medak is well connected by all means of transport.

Elected representatives from Adilabad, Nizamabad, Karimnagar districts and Nanded district of Maharashtra held a conclave on Tuesday to float an 'IIT Sadhana Samithi' in the temple town of Basara in Adilabad condemning the state government's proposal to shift the IIT site from Basara. State Higher Education Minister P Venkateswara Rao said the premier institute would be set up in Medak.

Three resolutions seeking an IIT in Basara were passed in the assembly in the recent past. Elected representatives of the opposition parties said they would intensify the struggle to get an IIT in Basara which would help in development of the backward region along with parts of Marathwada region of Maharashtra.
