Dear Students,
LAST WEEK WE ASKED:
Do you think offering three attempts to clear IIT entrance exam is a good move?
BEST RESPONSE
Ideally, it shouldn't take long to realise the real talent to crack the arduous IIT-JEE. Giving a third chance, especially for those from rural background, is a tepid response in a bid to improve the quality of education. This step will not only demean the spirits of aspirants but also dilute the standards of institutes. Adding to the woes, there is no proper yardstick to measure the real poor people, who are said to be benefited from such provision. Any kind of disparity based either on social or economic standards would tarnish the competitive environment of such prestigious examination.

Offering three attempts to clear IIT exam is not at all good move for the students. Every student dreams about IIT, but wasting three valuable years for entrance exam is not worth it. A student who studies and executes well can move forward in his/her life no matter whether he/she studies from any given college. Maximum two attempts should be there for students to crack IIT entrance exam. A student whose is capable to crack the IIT exam by chance can miss the opportunity for one time but for the second time he/she can make it.
It is not a good move to offer three attempts to clear the IIT entrance exam. There are other very good engineering institutes in India and abroad and hence, there are no dearth of options. Plus, three years is a long time and one is left behind from his/her batchmate by three long years. If one does not clear the exam in a couple of attempts in spite of putting his/her 100 per cent efforts, there is no need for him/her to waste it further.
The entrance test of IIT is not an exam where one can work hard and get into one of those prestigious institutions. No doubt hard work is required in order to crack the exam but students at IIT possess extraordinary intelligence. An extraordinary student need not require second chance but taking into consideration any misfortune the relaxation of two attempts is more than enough. According to me there is no need of a third attempt as it will only enable students to waste their precious two years.
Every year competition rate increases 20 per cent in India. Moreover, in the hope of clearing IIT exam students drop out and invest more money and time in preparation. And eventually suicidal and depression cases emerge when the same dropouts are not able to clear the IIT entrance test. A third attempt, in such a scenario, will only aggravate the situation.
IIT is not only a competitive examination but also acts as a leveler between the not-so-rich and the affluent. With the discrepancy in education system across regions and classes they can't compete with each other. There should be enough opportunities for rural India to compete with urban so that the whole country can progress simultaneously. I believe three attempts for IIT will be a good move. IIT happens for only one time but its effect is for lifetime so it needs serious thought, attention and preparation.
Seeing the efforts a student puts and the difficulty of the paper one chance is too early to judge the capability and, hence, three chances are desirable.

There should be a limit on the number of attempts for appearing the IIT examination. This is because the students keep on trying for as long as 5-6 years and it is no value addition to the academic profile. Also, apart from IITs there are other prestigious institutes which guarantee almost equal opportunities as provided by the IITs. The students should realise that ultimately how to make the best out of each attempt. One always has the option to get into an esteemed institution for a post graduation degree later.

IIT is a premier educational institute that holds the promise of churning out bright engineers. Three attempts to clear IIT exams is a really good idea. IIT is a competitive environment and to get admission in such a prestigious institute the concept of at least three attempts is something to be thought about so that in this competitive world one should be satisfied that there were enough number of chances given to become an IITian. This is going to be a motivating step for IIT aspirants.

There is an obvious disparity between Bharat and India, and thus an additional chance is required by the less privileged candidates to clear the crucial IIT entrance examination. Moreover gradually we should improve the rural education, upgrade it to latest system, provide professional education from the early stage of schooling, as empowerment is the key to upliftment not introducing special privileges. Besides, IIT is a competitive exam, and that should not be shattered with different flavors of reservations. Let competition decide the fittest and young talented join the institute without special privileges.

This move will propel students to spend more time in cracking the IIT entrance paper, a time which could well be consumed to build a strong skill-set in other engineering colleges and have a early kick-start to their professional career. Moreover two attempts is adequate to assess one's ability to clear the IIT entrance paper, failing which the third attempt will only prove to be redundant.

It will be a good move since studying in IIT is the dream of every student who wants to become an engineer. It is one of the toughest entrance exams and students must have the better understanding of subjects with clear concepts. Students with lower level of competence can also qualify the exam after rigorous practice if chance is given to them more than one or two times. Generally students who are not lucky and brilliant simultaneously fail to mark an impression in the first or second attempts. And, they really want another chance to sit in the exam with strong determination and zeal.

Offering three attempts to clear IIT entrance exam against the two chances being given currently is definitely a good move as it is one of the toughest engineering entrance exams in the world with a success rate of around 1 in 45. Achieving entrance into an IIT is often considered the pinnacle of achievement for a student of the sciences. Increasing the number of attempts to three would reduce the level of stress on a student's mind and there will be more emphasis on fully understanding the concepts instead of just mugging up.
