Dear Students,
LAST WEEK WE ASKED:
Do you think the Indian government should set up a body to check the veracity of international universities for benefit of students going abroad?
BEST RESPONSE
A regulatory body would ensure such universities do not get a chance to take advantage of gullible people of India and exploit careers of bright students. This would ensure some safety for the investments of Indian students which otherwise is put away based on the faith on websites and few manipulative people. Also, bright students who restrain themselves from going abroad just because they cannot be sure about the veracity of such universities would be able to pursue what they want to -- Sandeep Guleria, IBS, Gurgaon

Students become so euphoric and enthusiastic by the name 'foreign' itself that they don't bother to thoroughly check or inquire the credential of the university. Also, many a times the university use mala fide information on their website to lure innocent students as physically accessing the university campus is a herculean task. Hence, students rely on information posted on the website of the concerned university. So Indian government should set up a body to check the veracity of international universities for benefit of students going abroad.

Indian governments must set up a body to check the veracity of international universities, for the benefit of students going abroad because the Indian students joining fake institutions abroad, would be duped of lot of money. The degree that they would receive from these institutions might not be recognized in the industry effectively meaning loss of number of years spent at these institutions and no job. Also their efforts in securing admission in international institutions would be lost.

Foreign education has now become a luxurious affair with depreciating rupee value. Still, more and more number of students are heading for foreign universities for quality education. Parents are forced to pay their hard-earned money and a fake university in such a case may jeopardise any young, talented, budding career. There is a dire need for a body which has reliable information about the options which Indian students have. Government has the resources and relations to check the legitimacy of any institution with the host government, which can be used for welfare of the students.

The students in India opting higher education from offshore universities face tough time except for those applying in internationally acclaimed institutes. The residual students need to go through a substantial task of perusing each institute individually in their own capacity. A number of cases have come up in the past that several students studying in fake universities outside India. The transparency can only be brought by maintaining an approved body which can provide intricacies regarding the reliability and veracity of institutes. Thus, the Indian government should come to rescue such students by keeping a check on international universities.

International universities have always been able to tempt Indian students by taking advantage of poor regulations of Indian government. Because of this many parents have to bear loss of hard earned money they have been investing for their children’s future while students lose their precious time and motivation. Therefore, there is an absolute need of a government body which can keep a check on such universities and allow students some assurance for their investments both monetary and intellectual. This intervention would also help India save its wealth from getting exploited by corruption from other countries.

Talented students pursue higher education and post graduation. Students are groomed by our country's investment and are made capable of being eligible for higher education. It is the responsibility of our government to steer talented students towards awareness about universities, faculty, and student culture and work permits. By 2050 Indians will capture world employment market and will boost our economy through inward remittance and after returning back they will come up with entrepreneurship and build our nation.

In the wake of what happened last year, when Tri-Valley University in USA robbed many Indian students of their future, some precautionary steps from Indian Government are very much required. Setting-up a body to verify the authenticity of such universities would be a prudent decision. But verifying the authenticity of more than 10,000 universities in 196 countries would be a mammoth task. The said body can seek help of Indian Consulates in these countries, which in-turn can provide them the list of authentic universities in that country. If proper steps are not taken, internationalization of education would be in danger.

One of the main reasons why students choose international universities is, to enhance their employable value. A body to check the veracity of such universities would be of great help to both students as well as corporate’s. It will assure, more than 2.6 lakh students who are currently studying abroad, the authenticity of the university and, also the corporate need not do a background scanning to check the veracity of the degree conferred upon the students. If the students know that they have a recognised degree in their home country, it will prevent brain-drain to a great extent.

The foreign shores have become a huge attraction for Indian students seeking higher education. However due to the lack of a centralized body that provides guidance to such students, a majority of them depend on scattered and unreliable immigration agencies that may not provide authentic and reliable guidance. Even the choice of universities and the validity of the courses pursued can be questioned if they come from such unorganised and unsupervised immigration agencies. Hence there is a need to establish a body which would aid higher transparency, better guidance and exemplary career growth to the migrating Indian students.
