The book that inspired me

In today's world where things happen rather instantaneously and where everything appears to be temporary or short-lived, my favourite inspirational book (also made into an acclaimed motion picture) stands out firmly in my mind for all the right reasons.

To Sir, With Love may seem an old and outdated book to many, but to me, its relevance today is unarguably much more than when I had read it for the first time several years ago. I have read the E R Braithwaite masterpiece several times and each time I find a nuance or two that is new.

The book is not just a story of a communications engineer turning to the only job he gets "" as a school teacher in a grubby neighbourhood "" and what he does to change lives forever. It is about values and principles, emotions and chords, despair and optimism, success and failure, the highs and lows of life and so on, everything poignantly brought out in the story.

If I can get close to half what Braithwaite, as the school teacher, achieves in the film, it would be a dream come true!
