XLRI scholars strike it rich

XLRI Jamshedpur, School of Management's Summer Internship Programme 2006 has concluded with nine overseas offers being accepted, including those from Union Bank of Switzerland at Zurich, ICICI International Banking Group at Hong Kong, TAS and ICRM, a US-based management research firm, according to a statement by the institute.
 
Four students were selected by a niche division of SAP Ameria, the ERP major, which offered the highest domestic stipend of Rs 40,000 per month, followed by consulting firm Hay Group's stipend at Rs 32,000 per month.
 
IBM (20), HLL (11). Deloitte Consulting (9), Cognizant (8), Aditya Birla Group (8) and ICICI Bank (8) were among the largest recruiters this year making the maximum number of offers, as companies selected the 182 first year students, both from the Business Management and Personnel Management & Industrial Relations courses, the note added.
 
The year has seen a significant rise in the institute's consulting portfolio with first time recruiters Deloitte Cosulting, KPMG Consulting, SAP America and Watson Wyatt in addition to regular permier recruiters like Ernst & Young, Hay Group, Hewitt Associates and Mercer. About 17 per cent of the batch opted for consulting firms.
 
The banking, finance and insurance sector ranked among students' top preferences with 34 accepted offers across companies in this sector.
 
Besides, top banks like Citibank, ICICI Bank and Standard Chartered Bank, Edelweiss Capital were among the investment banks which debuted on the XLRI campus this year.
 
AIG, with six accepted offers, led the insurance sector, with Aviva and ICICI Prudential also participating.
 
FMCG and manufacturing firms signed about 26 per cent of the batch and these companies include Cadbury, Colgate Palmolive, GlaxoSmithKline, Godrej, HLL, ITC, Marico, P&G, Pepsi, Reckitt Benckiser and Seagrams, the note added.
