'Quarter numbers broadly in line with expectations'

The market remained range-bound for the period under review (July 13-19), while stock-specific action in relation to quarterly earnings stayed in the limelight. In the international market, the mood was upbeat after US bellwethers posted strong corporate profits, allaying fears of a slowdown.

Three of the four fund managers of Smart Portfolios Season 4 remained active. All felt the quarterly numbers declared thus far were broadly in line with expectations, except for those of Infosys.

Parikh added scrips like NIIT Technologies, Eicher Motors, Engineers India, Infosys, JSW Energy, Dr Reddy’s Laboratories, Tata Motors and Ambuja Cements to his portfolio. On the other hand, he booked 10-15 per cent profits in Petronet LNG, Lupin and Mcleod Russel India.

His current top holdings include HCL Technologies, Engineers India, Oberoi Realty, ICICI Bank and ITC. His net worth is Rs 10.32 lakh, up 3.2 per cent.

Mittal had a single transaction on the buy and sell side. He bought Axis Bank and sold off HDFC Bank. Mittal opines that Axis Bank is attractive in valuation terms, as it is trading at close to 1.4 times the price to book value ratio estimated for 2013-14.

Also, Axis Bank continues to grow faster (30 per cent yoy growth in lending in the first quarter), so he expects the bank to maintain its growth momentum.

According to Mathews, if the scrip breaks the 238 level, then it could easily move above 265-272 within a very short time.
