HDFC Bank, Grasim Industries, Hero MotoCorp, Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M), UltraTech Cement and YES Bank are six stocks from the Nifty50 index that have hit their respective lifetime highs on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) in intra-day trade on Friday.
Besides these five stocks – ACC, Ambuja Cements, Hindustan Unilever, Tata Motors, Tata Steel and Zee Entertainment – total 12 stocks from the benchmark index have hit 52-week highs today.
Tata Steel rallied 4% to Rs 374 extending its 13% surge in past four trading sessions. Tata Steel had said it had entered into discussions with strategic players in the sector, including ThyssenKrupp AG, to look at alternative and more sustainable portfolio solutions for its European businesses.
Tata Motors (Rs 497), Hero MotoCorp (Rs 3,294) and Mahindra & Mahindra (Rs 1,485) from the automobiles and ACC (Rs 1,644), Ambuja Cements (Rs 265) and UltraTech Cement (Rs 3,559) from the cement sector hit 52-week highs on expectation of a recovery in second half, driven by a normal monsoon and demand post the implementation of the 7th Pay commission.
“We expect the cement sector to see a revival in the medium term, with a strong FY17 ahead as a normal monsoon likely drives up rural demand in H2FY17,” Religare Institutional Research said in a sector update.
While there have been initial signs of a recovery in infrastructure, an improvement in economic outlook, normal monsoon, government’s rural push and the 7th Pay Commission benefits would be the key catalysts for demand recovery and, in turn, re-rating, Motilal Oswal Securities said in Q1 results review.
Hindustan Unilever (HUL) was trading 2% higher at Rs 950, its highest level since April 2015 on the NSE. Analyst at Motilal Oswal Securities expects HUL revenue to increase 6%, with an underlying around 6% volume growth in June quarter.
