The Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC) is setting up a world-class Apparel International Mart (AIM) in Gurgaon, comprising over 400 units at an investment of Rs 60 crore. |
The AIM, which will be operational by January, is aimed at attracting FDI in the apparel sector and giving a major boost to exports. |
AIM will showcase the expertise of the entire apparel sector in a single location and will act as a one-stop sourcing venue for foreign buyers. With its wide range of products, the mart offers buyers an opportunity to compare with various ranges of apparel before awarding contracts or striking alliances. |
The mart will cater to a global audience comprising apparel importers, fashion labels, designers, large-format retail manufacturers, distributors, fabric manufacturers and general buyers. AEPC is also planning to promote exports by conducting roadshows overseas. |
"Besides the US and the EU, we plan to target East Europe, South-East Asia and Latin America, which have good growth potential. The idea of AIM came to us from the concept of apparel parks, which have been devised by the government," said Vijay Agarwal, chairman, AEPC. |
