The Tea Packeters Association of India (TPAI), the apex body representing packet tea manufacturers in the country, has in a representation to the Karnataka finance minister, sought parity in sales tax for loose and packet tea in the state.

According to a statement from the association, presently packet tea is taxed at 10 per cent, while loose tea gets away with a significantly smaller impost of 4 per cent.
