The equity derivatives market continued to trade at a discount to the spot market.
 
April Nifty futures closed at 1865.80 points on Friday, higher by almost five points but lower than the spot S&P CNX Nifty which marginally increased to 1,868.20 against the previous close of 1864.20 points.
 
All the stock futures on the 52 underlying securities got traded. The total number of contracts traded was 1,70,614 with a traded value of Rs 5,541.21 crore.
 
The top 10 contracts contributed to around 57 per cent of the total traded volume in futures on individual securities. Satyam Computer was the most active future contract on individual securities traded today with 14,216 contracts and State Bank of India (SBI) was the next most active futures contracts with 13,579 deals being traded.
 
The most active future contracts were Nifty, Satyam, Tata Steel, SBI and Tata Motors. Open interests went up by 4.7 lakh shares.
 
The implied volatility for call was 21 per cent and put was 28 per cent.
 
Stocks which have added significant open interest are Oriental Bank by 33 per cent, HCL Technologies by 22 per cent, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation by 16 per cent, Dr Reddy's by 10 per cent.
 
Stocks losing significant open interest are Infosys Technologies, Punjab National Bank, Tata Steel, Gas Authority of India and Shipping Corporation of India.
 
Data indicate that foreign institutional investors were net sellers in derivatives to the extent of Rs 303 crore on Thursday.
 
Index futures saw a trading volume of Rs 3,622.94 crore arising out of 97,409 contracts and index options saw 6,416 contracts getting traded at a notional value of Rs 242.43 crore.
 
The total turnover of the futures and options segment on the National Stock Exchange was around Rs 9,906.02 crore.
 
Out of 52 securities, options on 49 underlying securities got traded. The total number of contracts traded was 15,214 with a notional value of Rs 499.43 crore.
