Auction of cardamom for the new season will begin on August 17 this year. The first auction will be held at Vananmedu. It was decided at a meeting of growers and traders held here.
On August 17 Vandanmedu variety will be auctioned; on August 19 & 20 Bodynaykanoor; on August 22 Kumili; on August 23 Bodynaykanoor and August 25 Vandanmedu will be auctioned.
The harvest season of cardamom has already begun in Idukki district of Kerala and over 12,000 tonne production is expected this season. During the last season, around 2,000 tonne of cardamom was exported. Good export demand is expected this time also because of the favourable global market.

The best quality cardamom had fetched Rs 800 per kg during the last season and the average price was around Rs 450. The market expects a better price realisation in this season also.
The growers are happy because of the better price realisation for the last three seasons.
Gauetemala, the main rival of India in the International market, is not active for the time being. Hence, more export demand is expected during the current season.
