Barley prices declined by Rs 32 to Rs 1,569.50 per quintal in futures trading today following increased selling by traders in line with weak spot markets sentiment.

Marketmen said although there was a strong demand from beer making industries, rising inventories put pressure on futures prices of barley here.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, the June contract declined by Rs 32, or 2%, to Rs 1,569.50 per quintal, with an open interest of 1,160 lots.

For the May contract, the prices moved down by Rs 17.50, or 1.12%, to Rs 1,548.50 per quintal, with an open interest of 14,770 lots.

In the April contract, the prices slipped by Rs 15, or 0.99%, to Rs 1,505.50 per quintal, witnessing an open interest of 8,110 lots.
