Barley prices surged by Rs 23.20 to Rs 1,197 per quintal in futures trade today following less arrivals, amid pick up in demand in physical markets.
Marketmen said, low ready stocks positions on restricted arrivals against strong demand from alcohol and cattle feed making industries pushed up barley futures prices.
At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange platform, barley prices for current March jumped up by Rs 23.20 or 1.97 per cent to Rs 1,197 per quintal, with an open interest of 1,610 lots.
April contract also moved up by Rs 3, or 0.28 per cent to Rs 1,090 per quintal, with an open interest of 450 lots.
