Barley prices rose by Rs 14.80 to Rs 1,049 per quintal in future trading today on the back of rising physical demand.
Market analysts said strong demand from alcohol and cattle-feed makers against reduced arrivals, led to a rise in barley future prices.
At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, barley for far April contract surged by Rs 14.80 or 1.43 per cent to Rs 1,049 per quintal, in an open interest of 180 lots.
Current December month contract too followed suit and advanced by Rs 2.60 or 0.21 per cent to Rs 1,260 per quintal, clocking an open interest of 4,020 lots.
