Barley futures prices today rose by Rs 19 to Rs 1,252.50 following increased buying by traders on firm spot markets cues.
Marketmen said reduced arrivals and pick-up in demand encouraged speculators to raise their positions.
Heavy buying by beer and cattle-feed making industries also boosted the trading sentiments, they said.
At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange counter, barley prices for current month June's contract rose by Rs 19, or 1.54% to Rs 1,252.50 per quintal, with an open interest of 13,330 lots.
Prices for July contract, too, surged by Rs 18.50, or 1.46%, to Rs 1,289 per quintal, with an open interest of 24,120 lots.
