Base metals decline on weak global cues

Base metal prices declined up to Rs 5 per kg in the local non-ferrous metal market today on reduced offtake from consuming industries amid weakening trend at the London Metal Exchange.

Sentiment turned bearish after copper weakened in global markets as some investors sold the metal to lock in gains after it climbed to a record.

Meanwhile, copper for three-month-delivery fell 0.7 per cent to $9,101.50 a metric tonne on the London Metal Exchange.

In the national capital, copper wire scrap, copper wire bar and copper mixed scrap enquired lower by Rs 2 each to Rs 460,Rs 484 and Rs 445, while nickel (4x4) traded lower by Rs 2 to Rs 1,020-1,022 per kg.

In line with a general weakening trend, zinc ingot, lead ingot and lead imported were down by rupee one each to Rs 130.50, Rs 134 and Rs 136 per kg.

Tin ingot also shed Rs 5 to Rs 820 per kg.
