Base metals drop on selling pressure

Most of the base metals traded weak in an otherwise mute non-ferrous metal market here today following selling pressure from stockists on the back of bearish global cues.

The industrial metals fell at the LME as traders turned cautious after Chinese monetary tightening ahead of US Federal interest rate meeting amidst release of GDP data this week.

Copper sheet cutting declined by Rs 7 per kg to Rs 446 from overnight closing level of Rs 453.

Copper cable scrap, copper armiture and copper wire bar lost Rs 6 per kg each to Rs 469, Rs 453, Rs 497 respectively as compared to Rs 475, Rs 459 and Rs 503.

Copper utensils scrap decreased by Rs 5 per kg to Rs 423 from Rs 428. Copper scrap heavy and brass sheet cutting both moved down by Rs 3 per kg each to Rs 461 and Rs 324. 

Zinc edged down by Rs 2 per kg Rs 130. Brass utensils scrap and aluminium utensils scrap softened by a rupee per kg to Rs 315 and Rs 109.
