Base metals soften on global cues

Base metals, including copper, turned weak and prices fell by up to Rs 5 a kg in the local non-ferrous metal market today on fall in industrial demand amid a weakening global trend.

Trading sentiments remained weak after copper fell in London as supplies outpaced demand in China, the world's largest consumer of the metal used in cables and household appliances.

Meanwhile, copper for three-month delivery declined by 0.7% to $9,482 and nickel shed 0.6% to $26,500. Tin also lost 0.7% to $32,500 a metric tonne on the London Metal Exchange.

In the national capital, copper wire scrap, copper wire bar and copper mixed scrap remained under selling pressure and shed Rs 2 each to Rs 524, Rs 547 and Rs 508 per kg, respectively.
    
Tin ingot moved down by Rs 5 and nickel fell by Rs 2 to Rs 855 and Rs 1,080-1,082 per kg, respectively.
    
Lead ingot and lead imported traded lower by Re 1 each to Rs 142 and Rs 144 per kg, respectively.

Lead ingot 142, lead imported 144, aluminium ingots 104, sheet cutting 105, aluminium wire scrap 105 and aluminium utensils scrap 102.
