Base metals strengthen on global cues

Copper and other base metals strengthened further to Rs 5 per kg in the local non-ferrous metals market today on sustained buying by stockists and a firming trend at the London Metal Exchange.

Increased offtake from consuming industries in spot markets too supported the uptrend in base metal prices.

Meanwhile, copper for three-month delivery on the London Metal Exchange gained 0.5 per cent to $6,640.50 and nickel added 0.4 per cent to $21,275 a metric tonne.

In the national capital, copper wire scrap, copper wire bar and copper mixed scrap were remained in demand and added another Rs 2 each to Rs 355, Rs 374 and Rs 334, while nickel (4x4) gained Rs 5 at Rs 875-989 per kg.

Zinc ingot, lead ingot and lead imported also gained by Rs 2 each to Rs 119, Rs 121 and Rs 123 per kg.

Lead ingot 119, lead imported 121, aluminium ingots 97, sheet cutting 98, aluminium wire scrap 97 and aluminium utensils scrap 96.
