Base metals strengthen on global cues

Base metals firmed up on the local non-ferrous metal market today on pick up in industrial demand amid firming global trends.

Traders said pick up in industrial demand amid firming trend at London Metal Exchange (LME) mainly pushed up the base metal prices. 

Copper for three-month delivery rose by 0.3 per cent to $9,887, while nickel went up by 0.9 per cent to $29,400 a tonne.  

In the national capital, copper wire scrap, copper wire bar, and copper mixed scrap moved up by Rs 2 each to Rs 525, Rs 548 and Rs 509 per kg, respectively.

Nickel (4x4) shot up by Rs 5 to Rs 1,067-1,069 per kg, while zinc ingot, lead ingot and lead imported traded higher by a rupee each to Rs 135.50, Rs 142 and Rs 144 per kg, respectively.
