Bharti Airtel up 2% on commencing 4G services in Chennai

The company may start its 4G network in two other major cities, namely Mumbai and Hyderabad later during the month

Shares of Bharti Airtel, India’s largest telecom services provider, has gained 2% to Rs 393 on the BSE after it decided to commence 4G services trials for its existing customers located in Chennai, according to media reports. The customers belonging to the city can avail a complimentary upgrade to Airtel 4G at 3G prices to experience Airtel 4G speed.

The company is expected to utilize the trial run as an opportunity to garner customer feedback regarding the quality of its 4G services and incorporate them into the company’s bigger agenda of constructing a 4G network infrastructure for the city. Further, the company may start its 4G network in two other major cities, namely Mumbai and Hyderabad later during the month.

The Company will offer pan India 4G services using a combination of FD-LTE technology in the 1800 MHz band and TD-LTE roll-out in the 2300 MHz band. It will also be able to offer 3G across all markets with the exception of Kerala using a combination of 900 MHz and 2100 MHz, Bharti Airtel said in a filing to the BSE in March.

The stock opened at Rs 387, touched a high of Rs 395 on the BSE. A total of 49,779 shares changed hands on the BSE so far.
