Shares of Bharat Heavy Electricals were up nearly 2% on the Bombay Stock Exchange after the company announced that it has commissioned 500MW thermal power unit in the state of West Bengal.

The 500MW (Unit 3) was commissioned at the upcoming Sagardighi Thermal Power Extension Project of West Bengal Power Development Corporation, located at Sagardighi in Murshidabad district of West Bengal, the company said in a release.

This is the first unit of Phase II (2x500MW) of the power plant and the second unit is also in advance stage of completion, the release added.

The stock opened at Rs 167 and touched a high of Rs 170. At 14:55pm, over 1.9 million shares were traded on both the stock exchanges.
