Black pepper moves up on increased demand

Black pepper prices edged up further at the spices market here today due to increased demand from stockist and traders amid good export enquiries.

Meanwhile, Copra Alapuzha also eased on poor offtake. Black pepper firmed up by Rs 3 per kilo to Rs 170/188 from yesterday's closing level of Rs 170/185.

However, copra office Alapuzha moved down by Rs 25 per quintal Rs 3,600 as against Rs 3,625 previously. Other spices ruled steady.

Following are today's closing rates in rupees with previous rates in brackets:

Black Pepper (per kilo) 170/188 (170/185), ginger bleached (per kilo) 180 (180), ginger unbleached (per kilo) 200 (200), copra office Alapuzha (per quintal) 3600 (3625), copra office Kozhikode (per quintal) 3425 (3425), copra Rajapur Mumbai (per quintal) 5200 (5200) and copra edible Mumbai (per quintal) 4300 (4300).
