Combined turnover of financial markets in 2002-03 at Rs 33 trillion, up 24%

The combined turnover of the Indian financial markets, including the equity, derivatives, and debt markets, touched an all-time high of Rs 33,22,928 crore in 2002-2003, a 24.3 per cent increase over the combined turnover of Rs 26,73,821 crore in 2001-2002.

The aggregate turnover was Rs 29,32,290 crore in 2000-2001, up 43.5 per cent from the turnover of Rs 20,437,52 crore in 1999-2000.

The National Stock Exchange (NSE) had a 64 per cent share of the total turnover of the financial markets, while the Bombay Stock Exchange had a meagre 9.52 per cent share.

The combined turnover of the equity segments of the BSE and NSE went up 13.6 per cent to Rs 9,31,952 crore (Rs 8,20,349 crore in 2001-02).

However, the Calcutta Stock Exchange (CSE) and the Delhi Stock Exchange (DSE) recorded a 79.9 per cent fall in their equity markets
