Broader markets outperform; Oil & Gas leads

After a decent opening, the markets continue to trade upward with the Sensex adding 104 points at 19,976 and the Nifty gaining 31 points at 6,0.13. The broader markets have inched ahead. The smallcap index is up 0.9% while the midcap index is higher by 0.8% as compared to the benchmark index which continues to underperfoem at 0.5%

In the smallcap space, 394 scrips have advanced while 122 have declined. The movers here are Tilaknagar Industries, Intra Infotech up 8%, Kanani Industries, Om Metals and    Hinduja Foundries gaining 6% each. 237 scrips have moved north while 40 have gone south in the midcap space. The propellers are Gujarat State Fertilizers up 9%, HT Media,Info Edge Indiaadding 6% and Unichem Lab, Edelweiss Capital and Honeywell Auto advancing 4% each.

Among the sectoral indices on the BSE, Oil & Gas, Consumer Durables up 1% leads the pack followed by Health Care and initial gainer Metal index. Meanwhile, for the second consecutive day the IT index is trading in the red, down 0.2%

Gainers (BSE): Bharti Airtel up nearly 2% is the top gainer in the Sensex- 30 stocks followed by Reliance Communications, RIL, Cipla,TCS, Hindalco,Hero Honda and Tata Motors adding 1% each.

Losers (BSE): ACC, Infosys down 1%, Tata Power and HDFC shedding 0.04% and 0.01% respectively round off the losers list.

The market breadth is very positive. Of the total 2519 stocks traded, 1719 have advanced while 706 have declined.
