The benchmark indices have managed to sustain their marginal gains in noon trades. The Sensex is quoting at 18,285, higher by 19 points and the Nifty is at 5487, up 11 points. But the bigger story has been the outperformance on the broader markets. While the mixed Asian bourses and the unenthusing opening across Europe have dampened the activity back home, atleast on the largecap front, the midcap index is at 6774, higher by 44 points and the smallcap index is at 8158, up 49 points.
In the largecap space, RCom has surged by 3.5% at Rs 88 to top the gainers charts on the BSE. Cipla has strengthened by 3.1% at Rs 328 and DLF has gained 2.7% at Rs 231. On the other hand, M&M has tumbled by 1.2% at Rs 693, ONGC has shed 1.2% at Rs 279 and ITC has lost 0.8% at Rs 187.
Patni Computers is hogging the limelight in the midcap space, surging by 7.5% at Rs 360. Godfrey Phillips has soared by 5.4% at Rs 2060 and Sintex Industries has gained 5.2% at Rs 189. And the smallcap space is seeing the likes of Consolidated Construction soaring by 18.2% at Rs 33, Gabriel India gaining 11.6% at Rs 50 and Confidence Petroleum adding 8.6% at Rs 16.
The market breadth is strong. Out of 2719 stocks traded on the BSE, there are 1563 advancing stocks as against 1050 declines.
