Bullion dealers have decided to go on a bandh on March 10 to protest the alleged harassment by government agencies. In an India Bullion and Jewellers Association (formerly Bombay Bullion Association) board meeting, it was also decided to observe March 10 as Black Day across the country.

Many policies have upset exporters. President Mohit Kamboj said, “Recently, many cases of harassment have been reported not only from Customs at the airport but even from the jewellers’ establishments.”

Jewellers are facing acute shortage of gold forjewellery exports due to restrictions put in place by the government. Industry is facing tremendous challenges against the act formed in 1962 which demands the jewellers to prove the genuineness of raw material (gold bar) that is used to make jewellery. The department looks at every businessman now with an element of doubt in terms of the raw material one posseses.
