Buoyancy is back at coffee auction

There was a turnaround mood at the coffee auction here. Both offtake and prices made handsome gains, signalling a good coffee season which is truly on.

Arabica prices appreciated by Rs 100 to Rs 250 and robusta grades were dearer by Rs 50 to Rs 200 at the Indian Coffee Trade Association's (ICTA) auction held on Thursday.

Both exporters and domestic roasters were active at the auction and offered good support to all arabica and robusta grades, said auctioneers Carritt Moran & Company.

Of the 396 metric tonne offered for sale (last week 259 tonne), 196 tonne was sold (last week 53 tonne). Arabica sales totalled 228 tonne (last week 196 tonne), robusta 168 tonne (last week 63 tonne).

Following are the prices quoted for grades in Rs per 50 kg. Arabica varieties: arabica parchment PB Rs 4,755 (quantity sold 10,063 kg), arabica parchment AA Rs 4,939 (919 kg), arabica parchment A Rs 4,840 (10,378 kg), arabica parchment B Rs 4,295 (5,525 kgs), arabica parchment C Rs 4,050 (2,716 kgs), arabica parchment BBB Rs 3,129 (6,868 kgs), arabica cherry PB Rs 3,452 (16,777 kg), arabica cherry AB Rs 3,791 (4,252 kgs), arabica cherry C Rs 2,815 (8,319 kgs), arabica cherry BBB Rs 2,602 (20,464).

Robusta varieties: robusta parchment PB Rs 2,750 (5,000 kgs), robusta parchment AA Rs 3,025 (20,000 kgs), robusta parchment AB Rs 2,950 (12,000 kg), robusta parchment C Rs 2,650 (1,950 kgs), robusta parchment BBB Rs 2,418 (23,000 kg), robusta cherry PB Rs 2,589 (6,668 kgs), robusta cherry AA Rs 2,745 (7,754 kgs), robusta cherry AB Rs 2,642 (6,451 kgs), robusta cherry C Rs 2,400 (1,950 kgs), robusta cherry BBB Rs 2,350 (699 kgs).
