Biocon, Bharat Financial Inclusion, Motilal Oswal Financial Services and Lakshmi Vilas Bank are among 31 stocks from the S&P BSE 500 & S&P BSE Allcap index hitting their respective 52-week highs after reporting robust earnings for the first quarter ended June 30, 2016 (Q1FY17).
Cairn India, Nestle India, Grasim Industries, Dalmia Bharat, Bajaj Finance, Finolex Cables, GHCL, Godrej Industries, Repco Home Finance, Tube Investments of India and Finolex Cables are others from the list too touched 52-week highs on Friday.
Motilal Oswal Financial Services has surged 20% to Rs 504 after reported a nearly three-fold jump in net profit at Rs 79 crore in Q1FY17, against Rs 28 crore in the same quarter last fiscal. Revenues surged 69% to Rs 351 crore during the quarter under review.
"While we have increased our business volumes, asset mobilisation and client addition, we also improved our market share in some of our businesses," the firm's Chairman and Managing Director Motilal Oswal said in a statement.
"This trend is expected to continue... Strong liquidity on balance sheet allows us to fund investments in new initiatives including housing finance, private equity, etc," he added.
Bharat Financial Services (formerly SKS Microfinance) rallied 17% to Rs 891 after the company reported nearly four-fold jump in net profit at Rs 236 crore in Q1FY17. The microfinance company had profit of Rs 61 crore in the year ago quarter.
The company said its weighted average cost of borrowing reduced to 10.7% in Q1-FY17 from 11.1% in Q4-FY16 and 11.9% in Q1-FY16.
Biocon soared 15% to Rs 804 after the biopharma company reported 35% year-on-year (YoY) jump in its consolidated net profit of Rs 167 crore in Q1FY17.
In separate filing, Biocon said the European Medicines Agency (EMA)—the European Union (EU) drug regulator—has accepted for review, Mylan NV’s marketing authorization application for the proposed biosimilar pegfilgrastim, used to stimulate the level of neutrophils, a type of white blood cells in cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy. Biocon has a partnership with Mylan to co-develop specific biosimilars.
