Capital good scrips worst hit

Key indices on Friday ended marginally up after a volatile session, as investors booked profits ahead of the weekend.
 
The Sensex and Nifty rose nearly 0.5 per cent before giving up most of the gains in the last hour of trade.The Bombay Stock Exchange's 30-share Sensex ended at 13703.33, up 22.50 points or 0.2 per cent from Thursday. Intraday it moved between 13665.52 and 13767.85.
 
National Stock Exchange's 50-share Nifty ended at 3950.85, up 5.40 points or 0.1 per cent, after moving between 3935 and 3965.80 intra-day.Combined turnover on the exchanges was roughly Rs 141 billion against Rs 143 billion on Thursday.
 
In the Nifty, the worst hit were capital goods companies, as they had run up sharply in the past week. The BSE Capital Goods Index ended down 1.3 per cent.The CNX Midcap ended up 0.2 per cent and S&P CNX 500 up 0.4 per cent.On the BSE, advances led declines 1.1:1.
 
Inflation figures, released around noon, did not affect sentiment. India's headline inflation rate, based on Wholesale Price Index, declined marginally to 5.29 per cent in the week to November 11 from 5.30 per cent a week earlier."The figures were mute, hence there was no reaction to it," a dealer said.
 
Tata Steel was the second biggest Nifty gainer after the company denied reports it had decided to raise its bid to acquire London-based Corus following a counter bid by Brazil's CSN.
 
The stock ended up 3 per cent at Rs 483. The share was down 3 per cent last week after CSN announced its counter bid. Shares of metal companies were the biggest gainers on Nifty due to firm prices on the London Metal Exchange.
 
National Aluminium Co. and Steel Authority of India were up 2 per cent each at Rs 225 and Rs 90, respectively.
 
Zee Telefilms, up 3 per cent at Rs 369, was the top Nifty gainer after the company said spin-off of its cable television, news channel and direct-to-home businesses had became effective Thursday.Zee Telefilms' three units, Zee News Ltd., Siti Cable Network, Wire and Wireless (India) will be listed following the spin off.
