Cardamom prices fell by 2.96% to Rs 804.50 per kg in futures trade today as speculators preferred to book profits at existing high levels.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, cardamom for September delivery tumbled by Rs 24.60, or 2.96%, to Rs 804.50 per kg, with a business turnover of 404 lots.

The spice for delivery in October also fell by Rs 23.10, or 2.65%, to Rs 847.20 per kg, with a trading volume of 108 lots.

The August contract shed Rs 21.80, or 2.76%, to Rs 767 per kg, with an open interest of 191 lots.

Market analysts said besides profit-taking by speculators at existing prices, fall in spot market demand led to the decline in cardamom prices at futures market.

They added that a weak trend in spot market following increased arrivals from the producing regions also put pressure on the prices.
