Cardamom prices today rose by Rs 51.50, or 3 per cent, to Rs 1,768.50 per kg in futures market today on sustained buying by traders to meet the seasonal demand.

Limited arrivals in physical markets from the producing regions also supported the uptrend.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, cardamom for July contract shot up by Rs 51.50, or 3 per cent, to Rs 1,768.50 per kg, with an open interest of 2,555 lots. It had gained Rs 21.40 in the previous session.

Similarly, the spice for delivery in August contract jumped up by Rs 37.30, or 2.31 per cent, to Rs 1,653.80 per kg, with an open interest of 1,157 lots.

Traders said sustained buying for the marriage season against limited arrivals from the producing regions led to an upsurge in cardamom prices at futures trade.
