Cardamom prices rose by Rs 12 to Rs 1,038 per kg in futures trade today, as speculators enlarged their positions, driven by strong demand in spot markets in view of festive season.

Limited arrivals in the spot markets also influenced the cardamom prices at futures trade.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange counter, cardamom for October-month rose Rs 12, or 1.17 per cent, to Rs 1,038 per kg, with an open interest of just one lot.

Similarly, the spice for delivery in January gained Rs 2, or 0.10 per cent, to Rs 1,187 per kg, with an open interest of single lot.

Marketmen said rising demand for the ongoing festive and marriage season against tight supply mainly pushed up cardamom prices at futures trade.
