Cardamom futures prices rose by Rs 11.90 to Rs 1,572 per kg today, largely on the back of strong demand against restricted supply in the spot market.

Restricted arrivals to the physical market are further assisting the gains in prices.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange counter, cardamom for February month contract surged by Rs 11.10, or 0.69 per cent, to Rs 1,572 per kg, with a trading volume of 390 lots, while January delivery rose by Rs 9.60, or 0.63 per cent, to Rs 1,533 per kg, with a business volume of 1,041 lots.

Similarly, the spice for March delivery also rose by Rs 1.10, or 0.06 per cent, to Rs 1,585 per kg, with trade turnover of 40 lots.

Market analysts said rise in cardamom futures prices was due to strong domestic and export demand amid low stocks, followed by restricted supply.
