Cardamom hits upper circuit, surges 4% on spot demand

Continuing its rising streak, cardamom prices climbed Rs 57.60, or 4 per cent to hit the upper circuit at Rs 1,498.30 per kg today, as traders enlarged their commitments, driven by pick up in strong exports and domestic demand.

Lower arrivals from producing regions in the spot market too influenced the cardamom prices at futures market here.  

At the Multi Commodity Exchange platform, cardamom for the March-month contract shot up by Rs 57.60, or four per cent to hit upper circuit at Rs 1,498.30 per kg, with a turnover of 184 lots.

The spice for the February delivery gained by Rs 55.70, or 3.93 per cent at Rs 1,472 per kg, with a turnover of 545 lots, while January-month contract surged by Rs 40.70 or three per cent to Rs 1,396.80 per kg, with a business turnover of 1,143 lots.

Market analysts attributed the rise in cardamom futures prices to strong demand in physical market, amid low stocks.
