Cardamom prices remained higher by Rs 9.70 or 0.63 per cent to Rs 1,540 per kg in futures trade today due to speculative buying followed by rising spot market demand.

Restricted arrivals from the Southern producing regions also supported the uptrend.

On the Multi Commodity Exchange cardamom for May the current-month contract rose by Rs 9.70 or 0.63 per cent to Rs 1,540 per kg, with a trading volume of six lots.

The spice for delivery in June-month contract traded Rs 8.40 or 0.58 per cent higher at Rs 1,437 per kg, with a business volume of 16 lots, while July contract also moved up by Rs two or 0.14 per cent to Rs 1,411 per kg with a turnover of four lots.

Traders said, rising demand in spot market against restricted arrivals from the Southern producing regions mainly pushed up cardamom prices at futures market.
