Cardamom futures prices fell by Rs 14, or 0.83 per cent, to Rs 1,658 per kg today as speculators booked profits at existing higher levels amid fall in demand in the physical market.

Increased arrivals from producing regions also weighed on the cardamom prices in futures trade. At the Multi Commodity Exchange counter, cardamom for August contract declined by Rs 14, or 0.83 per cent, to Rs 1,658 per kg, with a business turnover of 34 lots.

The spice for delivery in September-month fell by Rs 10.40, or 0.69 per cent, to Rs 1,496 per kg, with a trading volume of 161 lots, while July contract eased by Rs seven, or 0.38 per cent, to Rs 1,824 per kg, with a business volume of 19 lots.

Marketmen said, besides profit booking by traders and speculators at existing higher prices, fall in demand in spot markets also put pressure on cardamom prices at futures market here.
