Cardamom futures prices surged by Rs 69.80, or 4 per cent to hit the upper limit at Rs 1,816 per kg today, as traders enlarged their positions, driven by good exports and domestic demand.

Lower arrivals from the producing regions in spot markets also supported the uptrend.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange counter, cardamom for July contract shot up by Rs 69.80, or 4 per cent to Rs 1,816 per kg, with an open interest of 772 lots.

Similarly, the spice for delivery in June contract rose by Rs 28.80, or 1.51 per cent to Rs 1,933.90 per kg, with a business turnover of 2,133 lots.

Marketmen said apart from strong domestic and exports demand and limited arrivals in physical markets, led to an upsurge in cardamom prices at futures market.
