After announcing the quarterly free-sale release of sugar for sugar factories a month back, the Centre is likely to revise it to two-45-days-period. This is being done to protect the domestic market from crashing.
In a step towards liberalisation of the sugar sector, the Centre had, in November, decided to release free-sale sugar on a quarterly basis instead of a monthly basis. The mechanism is to come in force from January 1, 2002. Under the mechanism each sugar factory would be given releases for three months at a time in advance.
