Chana prices fell by 145 to Rs 4,699 per quintal in futures trade today after speculators offloaded positions as improved rains boosted hopes of better sowing.
At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, chana for October delivery fell by Rs 145, or 3%, to Rs 4,699 per quintal, with an open interest for 1,02,450 lots.
September chana declined by Rs 103, or 2.05%, to Rs 4,683 per quintal in 12,230 lots.
Traders said sluggish demand at prevailing higher levels against adequate stock availability led to the decline in chana futures prices.
They said improved rains over Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, which would help kharif-sowing, weighed on sentiment.
