Chilli prices fell by Rs 160 to Rs 8226 per quintal, extending yesterday's losses in futures trade today on continued profit booking by speculators at current levels.
Market analysts said increased profit taking by speculators mainly put pressure on the chilli prices but projected lower crop, capped losses.
At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange counter, chilli for delivery in March fell by Rs 160, or 1.91 per cent, to Rs 8,226 per quintal, with an open interest of 2,975 lots.
Similarly, the spice for delivery in April fell by Rs 154, or 1.83 per cent, to Rs 8,252 per quintal in an open interest of 1,295 lots, while delivery in February fell by Rs 122, or 1.45 per cent, to Rs 8,310 per quintal, with an open interest of 4,325 lots.
