Chilli, pepper up on stockists buying support

Red chilli and pepper prices shot up by Rs 200 per quintal in the national capital today on increased buying by stockists as well as exporters.

Red chilli prices rose by Rs 200 to settle at Rs 6,800-12,000 per quintal.

Black pepper prices also traded higher at by Rs 22,600-22,700 against previous closing of Rs 22,400-22,500 per quintal.

Traders said sentiments turned better following rising domestic and export demand and firming trend at futures market mainly pushed up chilli and jeera prices on the wholesale kirana market here.

Following are today's quotations (in Rs per quintal):

Ajwain 16,000-19,500, black pepper common 22,600-22,700 betelnut (kg) 120-145, cardamom brown-Jhundiwali (kg) 1,060-1,080 and cardamom brown-Kanchicut (kg) 1,200-1,350.

Cardamom small (kg): Chitridar 1,100-1,250, cardamom (colour robin) 1,250-1,370, cardamom bold 1,250-1,300, cardamom extra (bold) 1,350-1,460 and cloves (kg) 330-400.
