Comexes' turnover soars 45% in April

The turnover of commodity exchanges surged by 45 per cent to Rs 4,89,988 crore in April over the same month last year, with the country's largest bourse, Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX), contributing the most.

"The total turnover of three national level commodity exchanges and 19 regional bourses increased to Rs 4,89,988 crore in the first month of the current fiscal against Rs 3,37,814 crore in corresponding period 2008-09," Forward Markets Commission Director Anupam Mishra told PTI.

MCX, the country's largest commodity exchange, generated a business of Rs 4,04,000 crore in April this fiscal, according to the FMC data.

Leading agri-commodity bourse NCDEX recorded a business Rs 65,202 crore in April, up by over 37 per cent from the same period last year. Ahmedabad-based NMCE registered a turnover of Rs 13,250 crore in April.

Among the regional bourses, the Indore-based National Board of Trade, which basically deal in soya oil showed an impressive turnover of Rs 5,174 crore during the review period.
