Tracking a weak global trend, copper prices fell by Rs 1.95 to Rs 456 per kg in futures trade today as speculators offloaded their positions.

At Multi Commodity Exchange, copper for delivery in February declined by Rs 1.95, or 0.43%, to Rs 456 per kg, with a business turnover of 1,881 lots.

November copper shed Rs 1.90, or 0.42%, to Rs 451.25 per kg, with a business turnover of 27,482 lots.

Marketmen said speculators offloaded their positions in tandem with a weak global trend. Sluggish demand from consuming industries in the spot market influenced copper prices, they added.

Meanwhile, copper fell 0.4% to $8,268.50 a tonne on the London Metal Exchange.
