Copper prices fell by Rs 2.6 or 0.8 per cent to Rs 321.7 per kg in futures trading today, as traders offloaded their positions, after taking cues from the weakening global markets.
At the Multi Commodity Exchange platform, copper for delivery in November contract fell by Rs 2.6, or 0.8 per cent to Rs 321.7 per kg, with an open interest of 22,549 lots.
Similarly, the metal for delivery in August contract declined by Rs 2.5, or 0.77 per cent to Rs 323.6 per kg, with a business turnover of 3,261 lots.
Analysts attributed the fall in copper futures to a weakening trend in global markets on fresh worries about the euro zone's debt crises.
Meanwhile, copper for three-month delivery fell by 1.4 per cent to $6,815 a metric tone on the London Metal Exchange.
