Copper futures rise 0.61% on spot demand

Copper prices gained Rs 1.85 or 0.61 per cent to Rs 305.55 per kg in futures trade today on pick up in demand at spot markets amid firming global trend.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, copper for current-month June contract rose Rs 1.85, or 0.61 per cent to Rs 305.55 per kg, with an open interest of 27,842 lots.

Similarly, the metal for delivery in August contract gained Rs 1.80, or 0.59 per cent to Rs 309.25 per kg, with an open interest of 5,559 lots.

Market analysts said pick up in demand at spot markets and reports of a firming trend at the London Metal Exchange led to a rise in copper prices at futures trade.

Meanwhile, copper for three-month delivery traded higher by 1.86 per cent to $6,580 a metric tonne on the London Metal Exchange.
