Copper futures rise 0.87% on global cues

Copper prices rose by Rs 2.70 to Rs 311.35 per kg in futures trade today on fresh buying by traders, after taking cues from overseas markets amid pick up in demand in the spot market.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, copper for current month June contract rose by Rs 2.70, or 0.87 per cent to Rs 311.35 per kg with an open interest of 24053 lots.

The metal for delivery in far-month November contract gained Rs 2.35, or 0.75 per cent to Rs 317 per kg with an open interest of 295 lots.

Market analysts said beside firming trend at the London Metal Exchange fresh buying by traders due to pick up in demand led to rise in copper prices at futures trade.

Meanwhile, copper futures on the London Metal Exchange gained 1.4 per cent to a two-week high of $6,770 a metric tonne.
