Copper strengthens on global cues

Copper prices rose by Rs 5 per kg on the local non-ferrous metal market today on fresh buying by stockists influenced amid firm global trends.

Buying activity in copper picked up after it prices surged to a three-month high in global market as a rally in equities boosted investors confidence that the economic recovery is gaining momentum.

Meanwhile, copper for three-month delivery climbed 1.2 per cent to $7,386 a metric tonne on the London Metal Exchange.

In the national capital, copper wire scrap, copper wire bar and copper mixed scrap rose by Rs 5 each to Rs 379, Rs 398 and Rs 357 per kg, respectively.
