Buoyed by a firming trend in global markets, copper prices rose by Rs 2.05 to Rs 454.25 per kg in futures trading today as speculators created fresh positions.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, copper for delivery in November rose by Rs 2.05, or 0.45%, to Rs 454.25 per kg in a business turnover of 9,110 lots.

February copper traded higher by Rs 2, or 0.44%, to Rs 459.35 per kg in 767 lots.

Market analysts said a firming overseas trend on speculation that demand will recover in the fourth quarter in China influenced copper prices.

Pick up in domestic demand fuelled the uptrend, they said.

Meanwhile, copper for delivery in three months climbed 0.8% to $8,335 a tonne on the London Metal Exchange.
