Copper up marginally on global cues

Prices rose as speculators created fresh positions

Copper prices moved up by 0.12% to Rs 420.25 per kg in futures trade today as speculators created fresh positions on firm global cues.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX), the August contract traded higher by 50 paise, or 0.12%, to Rs 420.25 per kg in 431 lots.

The June contracts edged up by 45 paise, or 0.11%, to Rs 415 per kg in 6,116 lots.

Analysts attributed the rise in copper futures to a firm global trend amid concern that miners will refuse to resume work at Freeport-McMoran Copper and Gold Inc' Grasberg mine in Indonesia after an accident halted production.

Meanwhile, copper climbed 0.4% to $7,349.25 a tonne on the London Metal Exchange (LME).
